Viagra and Hypertension?

I've heard Viagra isn't recommended for people with hypertension. Is this true?

Curiously enough, Viagra began its life as a possible drug for hypertension. It was called compound UK-92,480. And it didn't work very well (although Pfizer announced a hypertension drug called Revatio that uses the same active ingredient.. then they tried it to treat angina. Not too good there either. But someone spotted the "side effect" that led Viagra to become the leading erectile dysfunction treatment of the decade.

A study in 2001 found that Viagra was safe for men who were also taking hypertensive drugs. So, bottom line is that Viagra is not dangerous for and, in fact, may well help men with hypertension.
